New Coaster for Efteling in 2029

The theme park Efteling, Kaatsheuvel, North Brabant, Netherlands, has officially announced the arrival of a brand-new roller coaster called Missie Luminar. Billed as the largest investment in its history with a budget of €50 million, it is scheduled to open in 2029.

Missie Luminar will be the first suspended launch roller coaster ever built at Efteling, and will be produced by the Dutch company Vekoma.

The trains, which can accommodate 18 passengers, will be propelled by a catapult system reaching a top speed of 80 km/h (49.7 mph), for a ride lasting more than two minutes.

The design of Missie Luminar was entrusted to Sander de Bruijn, Efteling’s creative director, who has already created iconic attractions such as Symbolica, Baron 1898 and Raveleijn. The designer has been working on this project for two and a half years and has made no secret of his enthusiasm for the scale of the task accomplished. “It will be an incredibly beautiful attraction, but also a massive one for Efteling,” de Bruijn said of “his” new roller coaster.

The coaster will be located within the Île des Cinq Sens, a vibrant themed area situated next to the main entrance, which already features the Maison des Cinq Sens, Efteling Grand Hotel, Efteling Theater and Aquanura water show. This location is no coincidence, as the trains for Missie Luminar will be seen zooming by as park guests arrive.

With Missie Luminar, Efteling reaffirms its commitment to expanding its lineup of thrill rides while maintaining its signature storytelling style, focusing on a fully immersive experience rather than mere technical prowess. This major project is part of a broader initiative to revitalize the park, which also includes the opening of a new attraction in the Raveleijn area by late 2026 and a Story Library in 2027.
