In an era when the balance of adding new wooden coasters and losing wooden coasters can tip either way, hearing of new wooden coaster projects is always a good thing.
A new project from Great Coasters International, Inc. (GCII) is underway in the Czech Republic in Central Bohemian. The location is Park Mirakulum.
While a far-flung woodie might not immediately excite those stateside, Europeans can easily get energized. Even those who aren’t avid enthusiasts can too. Why? It is the first wooden coaster in the whole country — at least since 1946. What makes it even more interesting is that it is the first amusement ride for the park. Currently, there are all sorts of activities for play (a petting zoo, trampolines, a water play area, etc.), but this new coaster will certainly shake things up and put the park on the map. It looks to be a thriller.

Stats provided by GCII report that the wooden coaster will stand 107 feet tall, race 72 feet per second (approximately 50 mph) and feature a length of 3,335 feet. The steepest drop will be just beyond 50 degrees, and banking will astound onlookers with curves just under 80 degrees.

What most visitors will notice is the underground tunnel that riders pass through twice. The first is at a slower pace after being dispatched from the station. The second time, passengers will roar through it at a wonderful speed.
GCII was close to wrapping up the foundations in February. One snag that is delaying the project is work visas. Once that matter is resolved, construction should kick into full gear. Originally, completion was expected for this fall, but now (according to GCII) it looks like completion will probably wrap up early next year.
The coaster will run two trains, each seating 24. The Infinity Flyer trains accommodate wild maneuvers, so that could indicate a truly thrilling design.
