Fans of wood coasters and of “firsts” will welcome the news that MagicLand in Valmontone, Italy, will be opening a wood coaster in 2027, the first in the park’s history and the first to operate in Italy since 2007 when Sierra Tonante closed at Mirabilandia. This new coaster won’t be ready in time for ACE’s Rome With ACE trip in 2026 but will make MagicLand, the largest amusement park in central and southern Italy, a much-anticipated destination for future trips.
The new wooden coaster will be designed and manufactured by The Gravity Group, LLC/Gravitykraft Corporation and installed by Martin & Vleminckx. Not much is definite about the new coaster, but it is said that it “will feature a modern engineered timber structure that offers a smoother, more dynamic ride while maintaining the authentic charm of traditional wooden coasters.” If this sounds vague, reports are that details about the layout and theme will be supplied throughout 2026. The coaster is yet unnamed.
MagicLand is located just outside Rome. It includes 40 attractions of all types, themed areas, live shows, dining experiences, shops and Europe’s largest planetarium. The new wood coaster is part of MagicLand’s ambitious multiyear investment plan for development and expansion of both the amusement park and its associated waterpark, MagicSplash. The amusement park is already known for its Halloween and Christmas events, and these new investments are intended to increase its appeal.
“This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of MagicLand,” said Guido Zucchi, CEO of MagicLand. “Working with Martin & Vleminckx allows us to introduce an attraction that is truly unique for Italy and highly distinctive on a European scale. This project underscores our commitment to continuous innovation and our ambition to offer memorable, high‐quality experiences to guests of all ages. It is a cornerstone of a broader strategy that also includes significant investments scheduled for 2026 and beyond.”
This new wood coaster will bring MagicLand’s coaster count to six. It will join its steel siblings Cagliostro, a Maurer spinning coaster; Dune, a Vekoma junior coaster; Esplorabruco, a Wacky Worm; Olandese Volante, a Vekoma mine train; and Shock, a Maurer launch coaster.
As of now, this coaster has no name, no theme and no layout details, but that hardly matters. In these days of vanishing wood coasters, enthusiasts are happy to hear news of a new one opening anywhere. As always, stay tuned!
